Zakat
Zakat, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a mandatory form of almsgiving aimed at purifying one's wealth and supporting the needy. It comprises two main types: Zakat Fitrah, given during Ramadan, and Zakat Maal, an annual payment based on accumulated wealth exceeding a threshold called Nisab. As outlined in the Quran (9:60), eligible recipients of Zakat include the poor, the needy, those employed to manage Zakat funds, new converts, those in debt, those striving for the cause of Allah, and travellers in need. The primary objective of Zakat is to promote social welfare and alleviate economic disparities within the community.
